Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels adds to its cast.
Tony Award winner Nathan Lane joins the Penny Dreadful revival and will star opposite the previously announced Daniel Zovatto and Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer.
The revival is described as a “spiritual descendant” of the Victorian London-set Penny Dreadful. The series is set in 1938 Los Angeles, following a murder that shocked the city. Lane will portray a veteran officer in the LAPD, Lewis Michener, who is “wise to the ways of the world and ruthless in pursuit of his goals.” He partner up and mentors the younger Detective Tiago Vega (Zovatto). Dormer plays Magda, a supernatural demon who can take the appearance of anyone she chooses. The cast also includes Jessica Garza and Jonathan Nieves.
Per an official press release, “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels explores an exciting mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of the period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a genuine historical backdrop. This chapter is a bold new vision that will employ all new characters and storylines.”
Production is scheduled to begin later in the year.
